PAH clearance (Research Only)
Clinical Decription:
The renal plasma clearance of a substance which is completely removed from the blood by the kidneys is equal to the renal plasma flow. At low plasma concentrations the p-aminohippuric acid (PAH) clearance is between 85-100% of the renal plasma flow, and is known as the "effective renal plasma flow". most kidney diseases result in a decreased rate of effective renal plasma flow. The estimation of the PAH clearance provides a measure of the extent of kidney damage.
