Angiotensinogen, angiotensin 1 (Research only)
(PRA, Hypertension, Angiotonin)
Clinical Decription:
Angiotensin I is a vasopressor substance that is formed in the body by interaction of renin and a serum globulin fraction (angiotensinogen). Angiotensin I is the physiologically inactive form of angiotensin, precursor of angiotensin II.
This test involves a radioimmunoassay procedure for the direct estimation of the primary product of renin activity, angiotensin I. Under the conditions of this assay, the accumulation of angiotensin I is favoured by allowing the endogenous renin and substrate to react in the presence of reagents which inhibit both plasma converting enzyme and proteolysis by angiotensinases.
