Amyloid Protein Identification
(Amyloid subtyping)

Clinical Decription:
Amyloidosis is a rare condition in which an abnormal protein builds up in tissues and organs. It affects normal tissue and organ structure and function by abnormal folding, aggregation and accumulation. Amyloidosis can be a systemic or localized disease. About 30 different proteins have been found to form amyloid deposits in humans, and accurate identification of amyloid proteins is essential as the treatment and prognosis can vary greatly between one amyloid type and another. Mass spectrometry aided amyloid subtyping procedures allow accurate amyloidosis diagnosis in a timely manner and greatly facilitate clinical management of the disease.
