Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia: IGHV Somatic Hypermutation
(for patients requiring treatment)

Clinical Decription:
Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) is a mature B cell cancer usually found in the blood. The genetics of the immunoglobulinheavy chain (IGH) receptor in patients with CLL can be stratified into 2 groups. One with many mutations occuring called hypermutated and the other that contains very few mutations called unmutated when compared to a reference. Patients with hypermutated  IGH usually have better prognosis and respond to standard chemotherapies. Patients with unmutated IGH usually have worse outcomes, don't respond well to chemotherapy but will respond to BTK type inhibitors.
