Serous Carcinoma - High Grade (Ovarian/Tubal/Peritoneal)

Clinical Decription:
High-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) is the most common type of invasive epithelial ovarian cancer. Germline and somatic mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes are detected in 17–25% of HGSOC patients, with somatic/ acquired mutations representing 18–30% of all BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations. Genetic testing of HGSOC tumor tissue for these genes can aid in determining the treatment choice for HGSOC patients with mutations. In addition, identifying women with hereditary ovarian cancer can facilitate the identification of at-risk relatives who may benefit from increased cancer surveillance and/or risk-reducing surgery.
