Interleukin-6
(IL-6)
Clinical Decription:
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine that plays a key role in the body's acute phase response to infection, inflammation, or trauma. IL-6 levels in the blood rise rapidly within the first hour of post inflammatory event and peaks after two to three hours. This quick response makes IL-6 a valuable biomarker for the identification of acute inflammatory diseases, including sepsis
