Renin concentration
Clinical Decription:
Renin is a proteolytic acidic enzyme produced and secreted by the juxtaglomerular cells. It cleaves angiotensinogen into angiotensin I (inactive), which ultimately leads to the production of angiotension II (active). Renin which has a limitating effect on the production of angiotensin, is a key factor in the regulation of arterial pressure and hydrosodic metabolism. Renin is secreted by the kidneys in response to a reduction in the perfusion of the renal artery (intrarenal baroceptor), a reduction of distal tubular reabsorption of sodium (sodium leakage), an hypokaliemia or a B-adrenergic stimulation. Renin secretion is reduced (negative feed back) when there is a high plasmatic concentration of angiotensin II.
