Platelet Aggregation
(Platelet Function Studies)

Clinical Decription:
The platelet aggregation test aids in the evaluation of bleeding disorders by measuring the rate and degree to which platelets form a clump (aggregate) after the addition of a chemical that stimulates clumping (aggregation).

Method: Platelet Aggregometer; Helena AggRAM

Component Tests Used: Agonist Panel: ADP, Collagen, Epinephrine, Arachidonic Acid, Ristocetin 1.5 mg/mL & 0.5 mg/mL, Thromboxane U46619

Reference Ranges Used:
ADP 76-100% | Collagen 83-99% | Epinephrine 81-97% | Arachidonic acid 83-99% | Risto 1.5 mg/mL 70-98% | Risto 0.5 mg/mL 0-10% | Thromboxane 83-99%

Specimen Type: Whole Blood (citrate)
Collected In: 3.2% Sodium Citrate
Volume: n/a

Shipping: Room temperature

Special Instructions: Collection tubes should be mixed by GENTLE inversion upon blood draw, to avoid platelet activation. Specimens must be maintained upright, until testing is performed. Specimens must be hand-deliverd IMMEDIATELY upon completion of blood draw, to the Core Laboratory (Special Coagulation Lab) with minimal time delay. DO NOT deliver/transport via the pneumatic tube system, otherwise testing cannot be performed. Samples must be clearly labeled "DO NOT SPIN" to avoid accidental centrifugation.

Testing Schedule(s): Requires Lab Approval.

Turnaround Time: 1 day
