Clinical Decription:
The measurement of magnesium is used in the diagnosis and treatment of hypermagnesemia and monitoring of patients receiving prolonged magnesium-free intravenous therapy.

2.5 - 6.5 mmol/d

Specimen Type: Urine 24 hour
Volume: 20 mL (minimum: 10 mL)

Shipping: room temperature or 4C

Special Instructions: If required, discard first morning sample, collect all other urine for a 24 hour period, to include second morning sample. Add 0.5 mL 5% HCl to 12 mL urine. Record volume and aliquot.
